A remote drive mapped over the Internet is inherently slower and less reliable than a local drive. If you have a lot of files or very large files, it is strongly recommended using DriveHQ FileManager 5.0 client software or FTP. DriveHQ FileManager works like Windows Explorer. You can drag and drop files/folders, double click on a remote file, open it and edit it. When finished editing, you can simply save it. The file is immediately saved to a local cache folder and then automatically sync-ed back to DriveHQ remote storage.
WebDAV drive mapping can be useful when you don't have DriveHQ FileManager installed. It is the most straight-forward way of accessing remote storage, and it doesn't require any client software. It works fine when you don't have too many files/folders and your file sizes are not too large. You can dramatically speed up remote drive performance by modifying your Internet connection setting as follows:
(1) Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools --> Internet Options. (See the screenshot for IE 8.0) :
(2) It will open the Internet Options dialog. Click on the Connections tab, then click on LAN Settings, it will open the LAN Settings dialog. Uncheck the checkbox "Automatically detect settings". Click on Ok to save the settings. See the screenshot below:
After this is done, you can access the WebDAV remote drive again. You should notice the performance is dramatically faster.
